Sussex County Indoor Bowls Association. Hon. Secretary writes....... Tuesday, 3rd October, 2. Well.. we're off to yet another Indoor Bowls Season and likely as not if you are reading this it is your opening visit to the website in preparation for the new season that effectively gets underway this week.. So welcome and I hope you all have a great time over the next seven months or so. If I can quickly repeat my last on this page and that is to competition competitors.. I haven't made any clerical errors.. May I also take this opportunity of saying once more that we have several vacancies on the SCIBA Executive coming towards us and I would be grateful if clubs and particularly you.. Association Members have a think about whether you can offer some of your time to help the management of the Sussex County Indoor Bowls Association especially after next year's AGM in June when a number of the current Executive have intimated they will be standing down.We shall be looking for a new County Secretary, County Assistant Secretary, County Competition Secretary and County Welfare Officer although with this last one the role has come under the purvey of the County Secretary up to now and could continue as part of his remit but the other three are vital to the secure continuation of SCIBA beyond June 2. 3D Playback Software For Pc . ![]() CURRENT NEWS. I came on as County Secretary! It would be very sad to see all the hard work and effort that has gone into literally saving SCIBA being wasted so I implore you all to give the greatest consideration to taking the Association forward for the next few years. This can anly be achieved by some of you volunteering your time. ![]() My thanks go to Les Mann from Worthing and Kim Robinson of The Grattons for being the first to offer their assistance. Les has become the SCIBA Match Secretary and Kim the SCIBA Treasurer (Elect). Les has moved directly into post and Kim will be taking over from the commencement of the new financial year on the 1st May, 2. Additionally Kim is our current Examiner of Accounts so with effect from the new financial year we shall need the services of someone with experience of accounting and/or book- keeping to take that annual job over from him.. If so then please get in touch with me so I can meet and discuss the ins and outs of the role you favour.. Tony Phillips 0. 19. I hope some of you will rise to the challenge.. Monday, 2. 8th August, 2. Would those entered into the County Competitions 2. County Pairs where a clerical error on my part resulted in a duplication which has now been corrected but as a result the draw, albeit the original one conducted by the President and myself, now reads differently. I apologise for any confusion caused but would add that as we are entirely website based such situations are quickly corrected once they have been identified. Had it been necessary the competition could have been re- drawn but in this instance that was unnecessary. Sadly from time to time mistakes are inevitably made hence I ask that you check your details very carefully in order any corrections can be made as quickly as possible before the commencement of the new season. Tuesday 2. 2nd August, 2. Death threat t-shirts. Look at the two pictures above. Which do you find more offensive? Which is more obviously a threat to kill or disrespect a president?Good Afternoon Everyone... I'm pleased to inform you that Darrell Petts from Denton Island Indoor Bowls Club has been co- opted onto the County Executive with immediate effect as the Deputy Vice President. Darrell was nominated by his club earlier in the year for the position and his inclusion will mean we are now able to present a full "Presidents" allocation for the coming season. Darrell has been the Captain of Denton Island IBC Men for the past five years and is an established Sussex Indoor member whom I'm sure many of you already know. He starts his official duties at the commencement of season 2. DVP at the first Executive meeting on the 7th November, 2. Subject to ratification by the full Executive on that date Darrell can look forward to becoming SCIBA President in season 2. We wish him well in progressing to that point. August, 2. 01. 7............ You will be pleased to know your Secretary has been busy during the closed season.! It gives me immense pleasure to announce that SCIBA have co- opted (subject to full ratification at the next Executive Meeting in November) Les Mann from Worthing IBC as the new Sussex CIBA Match Secretary taking over from Lew Mockett our previous established Fixture Secretary who retired at the end of last season. Many of you will know Les from his current position as the Match Secretary at Worthing IBC, a role he has exercised for the past four years or so. Les is extremely well qualified to serve Sussex in this position having previously been the County Regional Secretary of the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO) for nine years and held supplementary Association Committee positions with a number of diverse bodies. I believe he will be an excellent asset to the administration and management of SCIBA and his arrival on the scene is certainly opportune as many of you will know! Les will commence dealing with SCIBA Match Secretary matters with effect from Monday, 2. August, 2. 01. 7 and I would ask you to direct your inquiries to him and any "fixture" paperwork through to his e. Les's contact details will be shown on the "Officers" page of the Website later today when I've completed it and I also hope to have his photo displayed PDQ on the same page! Just leaves me to welcome Les aboard the 'SCIBA Express' and on behalf of us all to wish him every success for his future with us. I am also delighted to tell you that we have a new County Treasurer (Elect).. Kim Robinson (The Grattons). Kim is a qualified professional Accountant which is just what is needed to deal with the multi- faceted position the SCIBA's Treasurer's role entails. As most of you are aware the County Treasurer is also our Quartermaster and responsible for looking after and storing all of our stock such as, shirts, jackets, ties, county badges etc. As you know I have been covering the Treasurer's position for the past 1. Kim we have decided he should take over from the new financial year which commences 1st, May, 2. This allows for me to wind up my involvement and affords me the time to organise the changeover requirements with our Bankers. So for the next few months I will remain as the County Treasurer. At the April 2. 01. Executive Meeting we shall get Kim officially ratified in readiness for him to take over the reins at the end of that month. It's a feather in our cap to have secured the likes of Kim Robinson and I'm truly excited to have him join the County Executive. It does leave us with one small problem though.. Kim was our Accounts Examiner he will not be able to continue in that role once he takes over as full time County Treasurer. Therefore, we shall require a volunteer from one of our clubs to take on the role of Accounts Examiner with effect from the end of this financial year {3. April, 2. 01. 8}. If there is anyone who is an affiliated member of SCIBA who could take on the role then we would be very grateful. It's not an onerous position and there is a nominal fee payable to the individual concerned who should possess an accounting background or at least be someone who works with and is familiar with figures. The person does not have to be a chartered accountant or hold professional qualifications but will need to sign off on the County's Accounts at the end of each financial year. Please contact me in the first instance to discuss: Hon. SCIBA Secretary, Tony Phillips.. Mobile: 0. 77. 75 6. Further news is in the pipeline which I hope shortly to be able to confirm and that is the nomination of a new Deputy Vice President. Discussions are underway and I have a meeting with the nominee next week. Provided all goes well I should be able to make the announcement sometime after Wednesday next so fingers crossed on that front. Inevitably, I am still left with securing the services of an affiliated SCIBA member to take on the job of County Competition Secretary. I have everything for the coming season organised and apart from taking the results and organising the County Finals on 1. American Psychoanalytic Association Says Its Members Are Free to Weigh in on Donald Trump's Obviously Troubled Mind. This month, the American Psychoanalytic Association told its roughly 3,5. Freudian president in the White House. According to Scientific American, one of the association’s past presidents, Dr. Prudence Gourguechon, said the rule change was motivated by “belief in the value of psychoanalytic knowledge in explaining human behavior. We don’t want to prohibit our members from using their knowledge responsibly.”The rule change was in part necessary since President Donald Trump’s “behavior is so different from anything we’ve seen before,” Gourguechon added. Professional restrictions on diagnosing the mental health of public figures, which opponents refer to as a “gag rule,” has long been a matter of contention within the mental health field—but it’s become a particularly tense debate as of late. No wonder, given Trump’s tendency to go to war with his own staff and allies over perceived slights, rambling Twitter threats and that time this week he demanded the Boy Scouts pledge him their loyalty. Within the American Psychiatric Association, the much larger organization that claims a membership of over 3. Goldwater Rule.” (An unscientific and extremely controversial 1. Republican nominee Barry Goldwater was mentally unfit to be president, weighing in with descriptions like “paranoid” and “grossly psychotic.”) While violating the rule can only result in associational sanctions like being kicked out of the APA, not revocation of medical degrees or licenses to practice, it’s still a powerful deterrent. Prominent psychiatrist Dr. Leonard Glass published an editorial in Psychiatric Times this month resigning from the latter APA, saying the rule had grown more draconian this year with a new interpretation“that comments about a public figure’s affect and behavior constituted an unethical professional opinion.”Glass wrote tighter restrictions on statements by psychiatrists “made a fundamental error conflating a ‘professional opinion’ that one might provide in a clinical setting and be the basis for a treatment plan with the ‘opinion of a professional’ who is making an observation in a non- clinical context, in the public domain.” When he raised the distinction with the APA, he wrote, he came away with the impression the association thought its members “must be muzzled to protect the profession.”The American Psychoanalytic Association may not have the clout of the American Psychiatric Association, but it is respected. It’s not calling for reckless abandon, either: Gourguechon told the Atlantic it would be unethical for a psychiatrist to “guess what’s going on in somebody’s mind,” but that offering general insights like whether particular presidential behaviors were “impulsive” are fine. Trump is almost certainly such a significant outlier that some of his behaviors need to be weighed in on by professional mental health experts. Just listen to the guy speak for five minutes, and it becomes very hard not to think there’s something deeply wrong going on in there. But there’s also grounds to wonder if relaxing a rule designed to prevent the political weaponization of a medical discipline could have consequences long beyond the current moment. We do live in an age of Dr. Phils, massive stigmatization of mental health issues and politicians quite eager to call their opponents insane. Trump’s “psychological motivations are too obvious to be interesting, and analyzing them will not halt his headlong power grab,” the Duke University School of Medicine’s Dr. Allen Frances, one of the authors of the criteria on narcissistic personality disorder, wrote in the New York Times in February. The antidote to a dystopic Trumpean dark age is political, not psychological.”[Scientific American]Update: This post has been updated to include a quote from Dr.
